The Cushing Coliseum at the University of Nebraska at Kearney houses the indoor facility for the Loper track and field teams. Attached to the Health and Sports center in the heart of campus, the Cushing Coliseum opened in 1962 and has undergone significant change over the years.

Today, it contains a 160-meter synthetic track, along with areas for field events, including jumping pits, throwing areas and pole vault runways.

The complex is named in recognition of former Nebraska State Teacher’s College President, Herbert L. Cushing, who helped make this building a reality during his tenure from 1936-61.

Prior to the opening of the Health and Sports Center, Cushing Coliseum served as the main athletic complex on campus, housing almost every sport outside of football. Inside the facility was a 3,600-seat arena that the Loper volleyball and basketball teams competed in and a 220-yard dirt track for the track and field teams.
